Favorite: Fall Fashion

Hey everyone!

It's feeling a lot more fall in L.A. and just yesterday it was quite chilly and was drizzling. I thought today's post should be about my favorite trends for fall. Let's get into it! (:

1. Boots boots boots!

Boots

First up, boot that are made for walking! My two favorite kinds of boots are combat boots and riding boots. I just like how you can wear them with anything and everything.

2. Plaid shirts!

Plaid Plaid Plaid

I love plaid shirts. They're one of my favorite tops to wear when I'm in no mood to dress-up. They're comfy, stylish, and fashionable. During this time of the year I somehow always end up borrowing my dad's plaid shirts because his are bigger and I love how it looks over tank tops or plain shirts.

3. Sweaters!

Sweater Weather

My favorite season is always sweater weather. Sweaters are a must-have for me during this season and is my go-to. Whether I pair it with leggings, jeans, skirts, or dresses, I find that sweaters look good with any outfit. They may be thick or thin, fashionable or laid-back, over-sized or fitted but that's what I love about them, you can find different kinds of sweaters that accompany to your liking.

4.  Tights & knee-high socks!

Socks&tights

During fall, I still love how I can wear my skirts and shorts and not freeze while doing so. Personally, I love to pair my skirts or shorts over tights or knee high socks with them. Then add some sneakers or boots and you're all good to go!

5. Beanies!

Beanies

Last but not the very least, beanies! To be honest, I used to not like wearing anything over my head because I felt suffocated. However, this year I somehow fell in love with wearing them. I find that beanies very usefully throughout the day when I'm walking from one class to another or going somewhere and the winds are blowing my hair all over the place...or just when I have a bad hair day.

Those are five fall fashion favorites I wanted to share with you today. Let me know what you're favorite items are to wear during the fall season! Thanks for reading!

Practice Makes Perfect

9:10 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Hey everyone!

This post is going to be quite short because I've been trying to catch up on sleep and rest this week and haven't been as active so not enough new news to catch you up on. But let's begin!

What I've recently discovered about myself is that I am not a fan of clocks that tick-tock loudly! So last night I finally had it with the fancy clock in my room that bothers me at night and I made it a task to quiet it down. I researched about ways to quiet the clock and decided to just cover the battery machine with cloth. I had wrapped the battery machine and got the clock to quiet down. It worked! I had set it down on the floor to fix the nail I was going to hang it up on. When I picked up the clock again and was hanging it, a spider was crawling above my head. Just a quick fact about me: I have a fear of spiders or any insect/bug that crawl. I ran out of my room to call my mom to kill it but she didn't and it fell from my roof onto my bed. Then we couldn't find it anymore and so I didn't sleep in my room last night. What I did do instead was...

That's right! I camped out in my living room and made a fort. That's how terrified I was of the spider that was creepily crawling around my room doing who knows what. Instead... I slept in my fort through the night peacefully.

Anyways, what I wanted to blog about today is a class I'm taking this quarter- Intro to Oral Interpretation, and I really like the class. My professor is really cool and knowledgeable about the subject. However, our grade of the class is mostly based on the four performances each student has to do. We've completed the first performance and tomorrow, October 28, we do our second performance. For tomorrow's performance, we have to do a poem.

Little story... I was on Amazon one afternoon and decided to order some books. Before checking out, I impulsively bought a book I had heard about but never read. I bought the book because I read reviews and readers gave it excellent feedback. The poem I chose to perform for tomorrow is called, "Schooled," and is from the book, Slammed by Colleen Hoover.

I've had the book since the beginning of the year and I still haven't read it! I know, I know...why haven't I? Because I know I'll probably love the book because it includes romance and poems, and I happen to love both, I know the book won't disappoint me. Not to mention that I am a big fan of Hopeless and Losing Hope, which is also written by Colleen Hoover, so me disliking Slammed is pretty slim.

Moving on, for my performance class I decided to do the poem Schooled because when I was flipping through the book, this one caught my attention the most and I've had it memorized for quite some time. I'm so excited to perform it tomorrow! I'm hoping I can do it as well as I've imagined Layken performing it in the book. I've been practicing so much and reciting the words out loud that even my whole family memorize bits and pieces of the poem! It's catchy too, with the repetition of "I got schooled this year..."

PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. All day, every day, until I go up tomorrow.
Practice makes perfect..... right?

If you're wondering, here's the poem:

“I got schooled this year.
By everyone.
By my little brother...
by The Avett Brothers...
by my mother, my best friend, my teacher, my father,
and
by
a
boy.
a boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with...

I got so schooled this year.
By a nine-year-old.
He taught me that it's okay to live life
a little backwards.
And how to laugh
At what you would think
is un-laughable.

I got schooled this year
By a Band!
They taught me how to find that feeling of feeling again.
They taught me how to decide what to be
And go be it.

I got schooled this year.
By a cancer patient.
She taught me so much. She's still teaching me so much.
She taught me to question.
To never regret.
She taught me to push my boundaries,
Because that's what they're there for.
She told me to find a balance between head and heart
And then
she taught me how...

I got schooled this year
By a Foster Kid
She taught me to respect the hand that I was dealt.
And to be grateful I was even dealt a hand.
She taught me that family
Doesn't have to be blood.
Sometimes your family
are your friends.

I got schooled this year
By my teacher
He taught me
That the points are not the point,
The point is poetry...

I got schooled this year
By my father.
He taught me that hero's aren't always invincible
And that the magic
is within me..

I got schooled this year
by
a
Boy.
a boy that I'm seriously, deeply, madly, incredibly, and undeniably in love with.
And he taught me the most important thing of all...
To put the emphasis
On life.”

If you want, you can visit the goodreads page to find out more about the book and read the reviews to gather your own opinion about the book: Slammed by Colleen Hoover . And if you have read the book, let me know what you think of it!

Anyways, that's all for tonight/ Wish me luck on my performance tomorrow!

'Till my next post,

xoxo -Mira

Between Two States

Hey everyone!

First and foremost I want to give a BIG apology for how late this post is being posted. I know I've missed like a week's worth of blogging and I can't even express how sorry I am for the delay! So here's the long awaited update post!

My mom's friend's birthday is on Friday, October 18, and she had planned for a trip with her husband to go on a mini vacation and decided to take my family along. I've known since the beginning of the year that we were going away for a while but I what I hadn't factored in was how busy I was going to get. I was driving around the city because of tasks I needed to do for my job and lunch dates I had to attend during my days off, but I also had responsibilities that needed to be done for school. I didn't picture my month to be so busy and productive! Anyways, throughout the week, I made sure that my homework and projects for school was completed before going on the trip. However, I ended up bringing some school stuff because I had a test to make up the next day we came back. So for the trip my mom's friend and husband along with my family went on a road trip to Lake Tahoe!!! I was so excited because I had never been there before. Let me describe my journey to you!

On Friday, October 18th, my dad and I went to the car rental place at 2 pm to pick up  the car we had rented for the trip. We started loading up the van and we left my house around 4pm. On the road we go! I lasted about three hours on the drive then fell asleep. I was super tired from the week that I spent most of the drive asleep. However, I do remember how traffic getting out of the city was and just listened to music and read my book. When I awoke we were at a gas station and still had two hours worth of driving until we reached our hotel. After using the restroom, I found out we were already in Nevada! Once we all got back in the car, I started reading my book again and when we were nearing our destination I finished my book. I will be posting a review on my READS page about the book I read so make sure you come back to check that post! Back to my story, we reached the hotel around one in the morning and it was colder than I had expected and I loved it. We stayed in a hotel near Zephyr Cove that was in Nevada.

After unpacking and getting settled I filmed a hotel room tour and some updating then got ready for bed. The next morning we ate breakfast and got ready then all packed ourselves back in the van to do some more driving. The first place we visited was Zephyr Cove which included a mini cruise for people to go on and boat rentals.

Then we got back on the road again to go to a different city. Here's a view of a place we made a random stop at:

It was cold at the place we had stopped so after a few minutes of taking pictures and looking at the view we went back to driving. My seat partner throughout the whole trip was my little brother, and after a few wasted lives on Candy Crush, and few tries on Slam Dunk we got bored and took the time to take a few selfies. Here's a blurry one for you:

After another thirty minutes of driving we arrived at our destination. Here's the view:

This place was really interesting because the roads were really small and on both sides of the road were cabins and my family didn't want to drive all the way around so it was difficult trying to find parking but it was worth it. After our stop we decided to go to North Lake Tahoe which was an hour and a half drive from where we were so on the road we go!

The place we arrived at was incredibly beautiful! We were going to do an activity but the place was closed for the season so we just made our drive worth it but walking around. We were at Tahoe City, and let me just say that the city was like out of film. Everything around me was like the perfect view- yellow, orange, green, and brown! With the cold weather and sun shining down, I felt like I was really experiencing the season of "Fall." We walked around a country club and walked out on the docks and the view of the lake was breathtaking. By this time of the day, my camera decided to die and I could only take pictures with my phone camera so the quality doesn't do the place justice but look:

After taking a stroll down the city that I imagined would be a perfect place to spend lazy days in the summer, my dad and I found this brewing/pub-ish cafe where we decided to have a late lunch/snack time. We got seated in the middle of the place and were surrounded by four T.Vs, three of which were playing football games and one viewed the news. I tried their Clam Chowder and Caesar salad, which were both absolutely delicious!

The Clam Chowder had a different taste to it than compared to others I've tried and I loved it! After eating our food, we decided to head back to our hotel. Once again, I fell asleep on the trip back! Once we got back to the hotel my dad, brothers, and I went for a Starbucks run and rented a couple of movies.Dinner time was nice; our meal: grilled salmon and chicken with salad and french bread. YUMMM. Once we all got cleaned up, everyone went to the living room to watch one of the movies we had rented but I decided to spend my down time studying for my Geology test. Two hours later... I went to bed.

The next morning, after we got ready for the day we went back to Zephyr Cove. My parents braved it out and tried Pedal Boating. It was so much fun and the water was so clear you could see the bottom of the lake. We rented two boats which fitted four people on each boat and I road with my brothers. Once we were far enough from the beach and my parents we gave it a break and chilled...

After an hour of pedaling, we went to the downtown part of the city to do some window shopping. It was a beautiful place and we spend most of our day walking and checking out the stores. Here's what I ended up purchasing.

Once we got back to the hotel, everyone else watched the other movie or helped made dinner while I took a nap. Then my mom woke me up for dinner- our meal: grilled shrimp and pork. When we finished eating dinner, I spent my down time being a good student and studied for my test again. After fitting another two hour study session, I packed up all my stuff. We left our hotel at 6 am the next morning. After the eight hour back of a drive from Lake Tahoe to L.A. we made it home safely!

It was such a beautiful place to visit and I really want to go back during the summer. It was really cool to experience driving back and forth California and Nevada several times and count the times we spent crossing the state lines. The trip was so much fun and I loved it! I hope you had fun reading about my mini getaway as much as I had remembering and writing about it.

'Till my next post,

xoxo -Mira

A Plan and A Favorite

6:26 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Hey everyone!

I’ve had such a fun start to this week and I’m excited for what’s to come for the rest of the week. This morning I was trying to decide what to do for my post today because I'm still trying to find my schedule around blogging and what to blog on certain days and I've come up with a plan. (:
On Sunday, I posted how my weekend has gone but it's only been a day since my last post so I'm wasn't entirely keen on just talking about what I did yesterday and today, and it's not much, just consisted of school and homework. So here's what I've come up with:

Tuesdays: I will be sharing about my favorites (anything and everything: makeup, music, clothes, brands, quotes, etc).

Thursdays: Is a free for all post. I'm not sure how this will work but it will probably be about what I've randomly chosen to post that day.

Sundays: Since it's a weekend - day, I'll post about exciting activities, news, stories that has happened with my week.

That's my goal for now but it may change over time; but I really want to blog as much as I can since I've got a lot of time on my hands. Thank you so much to those who read my posts for taking the time to read them! And since today is Tuesday, here's what I'm sharing:

Today I wanted to share with you all about my favorite album of the week! I’ve listed to this band since their debut but lately, they're album has been my go-to album when hustling and bustling through my day. What is it? It’s… Of Monsters and Men: My Head is an Animal.

The photo above is their album cover and I give all credit to Of Monsters and Men and Republic Records. (:

If you haven't heard their album yet, I strongly suggest you go check it out because it is AMAZING! Their voices put a unique sound to their songs and I've had their album on repeat the past few weeks. I love it! I still haven't quite figured out what my favorite song is from the album but to be honest, I can't really choose. However, I can tell you that my top three most played songs from their album are:

1. King and Lionheart

2. Yellow Light

3. Your Bones

I hope you've enjoyed listening to those songs. The Icelandic band is so talented and their album is just soooo good! If you're not into the indie/folk-ish type of music then I totally understand how you would disregard this post but I thought it would be nice to share with all of you what has been filling my ears the past couple of week.

Till my next post,

xoxo -Mira

Fundays and Delicious Food

10:27 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Hey everyone!

Saturday and Sunday has turned out to be a very unplanned productive weekend. Let's take a look back on my weekend events shall we? Let's go!!

On Saturday I woke up early to get ready for school. That's right, I went to school on a Saturday morning! But not for the reason you think I went. I had to go to school because there's was a writing exam I had to take that's required by my university. It was pretty easy and I'm pretty confident I passed... or at least I hope so. After taking the exam (and being the last to exit the classroom), I tagged along with a few friends to have lunch. We headed to a restaurant called, The Boiling Crab. Here's a view of the delicious food:

I give photo credit to my friend Kyle because I couldn't get a nice photo.

I give credit to a new friend I made, Jeffrey, for the photo above.

If you haven't tried this place I encourage you to go because it's so good! But I should probably inform you that you get to wear a bib, there are not cutlery, and you use your fingers to eat. Not your normal restaurant I tell you.

After our lunch date, my friend Jenilee and I went on an adventure and took the public transit to go home. Once we got to my house we spent a good amount of time watching funny YouTube videos and talking then walked to Yogurt land for some frozen yogurt for dinner.

A fact about me is that when I go to Yogurt land (nearest to my home), I try the other new flavors but always end up getting the same combination: plain tart, strawberries, mochi, and white chocolate chips. However, in the picture above, I do have mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups because I decided to try something new. When I got home I spent the rest of the night doing my homework so I could use today to blog. Yay for being responsible!

Now as for Sunday, well today basically, I went to church in the morning then hung out with some friends and we talked about Halloween and what costumes to dress as. Any ideas of what/who I should be? After that, I came home to finish the last bit of an essay I have been working on for three days! Once I finished, I did some chores... more like did the laundry and caught up with my TV programs: Hawaii Five-O and Survivor.

Then my mom asked me to make dinner and it was SUSHI night! It was difficult at first but my little brother and I had fun making them and here's how they turned out:

Looks delicious right? They were! Yummy food in my tummy! Anyways, I am aware that this post only includes pictures of food from my weekend but I promise my pictures won't be all food. This upcoming week will be a busy week for me and I can't wait to share it with you!

'Till my next post,

xoxo -Mira

A Constellation, a Musical, and Somewhere in Italy

2:22 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Good afternoon everyone!

Yesterday my mom, dad, and I took my uncle out for his last day here in L.A. We decided to spend some time at the Griffith Observatory and I learned some new information that I thought I'd share with you.

If you haven't read my About page then you'll read now that my name is Mira. I've known for a while that my name is a star, and no, no one bought the star and named it after me, it just so happened that it was already scientifically named Mira. During my visit yesterday, I never really intended to find out information about the star. However, after spending some time with my mom and reciting lines for my performance class, a light bulb in my head and I remembered my star. It took me a while to find the right people who would help me but when I was directed to them, here's what I learned:

1. Mira, the star, is part of the constellation, Cetus- Mira being it's most notable star. To Cetus 's left are the constellations Orion and Eridanus. I hadn't gotten the names of lady and man who had helped but I do remember the lady having purple hair. She drew this little picture for me:

She told me that Mira was diagonally placed from Orion's knees (second arrow). After that information, the man who was with her also helped me find new information about my name.

2. Mira is a song in the 1953 film, Lili, which was then produced into a musical in 1961 called, Carnival! He even sang part of the song for me and he had an incredible voice!

In the film, Lili, Lili sings about being from a town called Mira and with great interest, we decided to look up if it was a real town... which leads me to my third point.

3. Mira is place in Italy- Mira, Venice, Veneto, Italy. We played around on Google Maps on the location and it was cool to see. Now it's added on my Bucket List to visit. Yay!

Those were three of the little miracles I found that happened to me yesterday. I hope you enjoyed reading about my discovery of my name as much as I had learning about them!

'Till the next miracles,

xoxo- Mira.
